Anita was always drawn to practicing Medicine, and as a pre-med student in university, excelled in Anatomy and Physiology. However, life obligations had Anita changing the course of her studies to become a court reporter, working in such diverse places as the US Federal Court, London's Old Bailey courthouse and the Canadian Parliament for many years.
Anita knows firsthand that Acupuncture Works! Due to a childhood injury and years of sitting in the courtroom, Anita was developing an extremely painful "sciatic" condition, when someone suggested Acupuncture. "I had one Acupuncture treatment and the pain was gone!" That was twelve years ago.
"I decided that if Acupuncture could be such a blessing for me, I want to be able to pass this on to others... in pain, in sickness and disease."
So Anita went back to school, to the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Victoria, BC, and enrolled in the five year Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program. Anita graduated as a Practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a Registered Acupuncturist within the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners of British Columbia... and Anita continues to study.
"The wisdom and knowledge of Oriental Medicine, accrued over thousands of years, is huge and so old. It's like sitting on top of a mountain of knowledge and you want to keep mining this wisdom...because it is proven medicine...it works!"
Besides Medicine, Anita has a passion for Art, and has taken many fine arts courses, including Chinese brush painting and calligraphy.
"I think this is why I am so attracted to practicing and forever expanding my understanding of Oriental Medicine. Not only is it effective Medicine, it is an Art, and when I do a treatment now, I assess the placement of needles, not only for therapeutic effect, but also for balance and flow...just like a painting.
"Oriental Medicine strongly uses observation, of colour, of sound, feel, energy, and often describes an individual's condition or state in seasonal terms...wind, damp, cold, heat, summer heat, fire. The client coming into my treatment room is a complete ecology within themselves, and then a unique ecology within an outer ecology, the outer environment. It's all about balancing Yin and Yang, and harmonizing the flow of Qi in the body and psyche, in order to return the client to a happy, relaxed, pain-free balanced state."
